Level 1 Academic Phase (150 hours):  You will learn:

1-The Principles & Practice of Swedish Massage Therapy, including Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Technique(100 hours) $2185.00  (not including tax $ supplies & Anatomy Course) 

2-Introduction to Human Anatomy, Physiology, Kinesiology  ( 50 hours-Level 1-Pre-Clinical)  $550.  (not including tax &supplies

 With these two Courses you get a certificate to practice massage in our clinic in Hawaii  so that you can finish your 420 hours pre-requisite  

 Goals: To learn basic concepts of the human body, particularly relating to health, movement, palpation and soft tissue therapies. Includes a therapeutic, full-body massage routine. Learn when, why and how massage helps, as well as when it is not indicated. Explore body mechanics, the power of healing touch, aromatherapy, reflexology,  palpation and assessment skills. 

Level 1 Dates:  Introductory Swedish  classical Massage (100 hrs), includes Anatomy-Physiology-Kinesiology (50 hours) 

  • Fall: Sept. 13 – Oct. 30, 2010 (Mon/Wed/Fri, 10-4) Fall course includes Sports Massage course, & participation in the Kona Ironman Triathlon massage team in October!
  • Winter: Jan. 5, Feb. 18, 2010 (Mon/Wed/Fri, 10-4)
  • Spring Intensive: May 17 – June 18, 2010 (Mon/Wed/Thu/Fri, 10-4). 5 weeks. $2,285.00
  • Summer Anatomy : June 15-June 30th

  • Fall:  Sept.13 - Sept. 29 & Oct. 22 – Nov. 14, 2010 (Mon/Wed/Fri, 10-4). 
  • Winter: Feb. 20 – March 13, 20111 (Mon/Wed/Fri, 10-4).
  • Spring Intensive: July 6 – July 21, 20111. Two-weeks Intensive (Mon/Wed/Thu/Fri, 10-4) $600

TOTAL: Level I -$2,735.00 plus state tax and supplies. ($200.00 off for early registration & 15% with full advanced  payment.)
Level I prepares students for Continuing Educational levels or student Internship Program.

Levels 2 and Internship Training (min. 420 hours): includes 4 workshops
Upon completion of Level I program or equivalent from another school, the student may continue with the Internship Program at the Big Island Academy of Massage, where advanced techniques are taught in a safe and nurturing environment, the student obtains valuable clinical training by experiencing the workings of an ongoing clinic setting, under the direct supervision of qualified staff.
Subjects: Aromatherapy, Reiki, Shiatsu, Watsu,  Sports Massage, Deep Tissue, Pre-Natal Massage, Hot & Cold Stone therapy,  Hawaiian Lomilomi and Pohaku Hot stone Lomi, Kinesiology, Professionalism and Business Matter, to name a few. These workshops are also available throughout the year.

Level II tuition is $2.140 includes 4 classes:  Reflexology, SportsMassage, Pre-NatalMassage  Hot-Cold Stone Therapy (not included  fees, insurance, CPR and supplies. ) Students participate in community events.  Level II  Prepares students for State and National Exams.

Payment plans: Payment plans available, distributed over 5 months. Students may pay monthly after a $500 down payment is made. Long-term student loans are available though our affiliate TFC Credit Corp or Bank loans.  If tuition is paid in full at the time of registration a $200.00 discount will be given. or  ($15% discount before Aug.31st)

The Big Island Academy of Massage is the only Vocational Trade Academy  in downtown Hilo. It is recognize and approved  by the State of Hawaii Massage Board Licensing.  We are also AMTA school member in good standing and have student job placement. All Books and supplies may be purchased through the school.

To be considered for our program you must:

  1. Apply with a $150.00  non-refundable registration fee or to be used for upcoming workshops
  2. Attend an Interview with the Director. (This can be done over the phone if you are coming from off island).
  3. Be at least 17 years of age. 
  4. Make financial arrangements and sign a student contract.

NOTE: Our program is based on a first come basis (for those that qualify), class fill up quickly so early registration is advised. No one will be considered registered until they have met all of the above requirements.

Pre-licensing requirements: With the onset of pending changes in the state Board of Massage rules, all students must be finished with Level I and Level II programs before the new changes are made. After this time, students will need to meet the new standards. Fees will go up accordingly. For details on Hawaii requirements, call (808) 586-3000.
